Everyday we're CV'ingAs a Community Volunteer - I do as much or as little within the community that I feel comfortable doing. We're not pressured to do this and that, we don't even have to give a Daily Deviation every day, we choose how we promote our selected galleries/chats and forums and we're not fixed to any specific rule on how much or how little we do. But I do believe that it's important to share with you just what the community volunteers do and why we do it. More importantly it's so easy to get lost on this site full of many people - and miss out on the awesome that's going on. So I'm going to share with you exactly what the latest awesome is... Project Educate Almost every week since October last year the Community Volunteers have been working hard both independently and as part of small teams to bring You Project Educate.Project Educate is about bringing forward art forms whether they are popular or overlooked and giving

A brief history of Adobe PhotoshopAdobe Photoshop. Anyone who is involved in the Digital Art world has used it or at least heard of it. But how did Photoshop came to be? In the following paragraphs, we'll review its history.Thomas and John Knoll: the brothers behind the magicBack in 1987, Thomas Knoll was working on his Ph.D. thesis as part of his studies on image processing at the University of Michigan. He had bought a new Apple Mac Plus to help with the thesis, but was frustrated by the fact the computer wouldn't display greyscale images on the monochrome monitor. This issue wouldn't stop him and so he decided to write his own code in order to be able to see the images in his new computer. His brother John was coincidentally working for ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) on image processing at the time and discovered Thomas' code during a holiday visit. Clearly impressed by his brother's achievements, both began collaborating on a bigger applic
How to Successfully Finish a Comic or StoryThis issue has been going on a lot lately, especially when the comic that you loved the most from famous artist had to be cut, because of the artist's personal reasons? Well if you want to do a long comic/story these are the most things should be in your mind.WARNING: THESE ARE FOR THE ONES THAT ARE CREATING A STORY (LITERATURE OR COMIC) THAT IS AT LEAST OVER 100 PAGES. If you are doing a long comic, say over 400 pages, you should dedicate 70% of your DA drawings on it. Unless you are pretty sure that you will be one of the artist for SEGA or Archie, then you should.A lot of people lost their motivation because they didn't have the time to do it as they are preoccupied by commissions and request. Set a storyline. Some that I knew couldn't continue their comic because they don't know how to transition from one chapter/issue to another. By planning what are you going to explain/draw in each chapter you will have a scope of each chapter. As a resu
Win up to $500 in WCW Magazine's Art Contest!UPDATE:Greetings, artists of the world! After much labor and juggling of priorities, I have finally brought the magazine's first contest up to speed. What follows is a brief outline of the nature of the contest; the complete rules can be found at this http://www.wisdomcriethwithout.com/announcing-wisdom-crieth-withouts-first-annual-art-contest/ .Also, the contest has been opened up to more images per entry, as well as previously published art. A commenter on the Forum post for the contest had got me thinking, and after a bit of thought I found it only fair to allow previously released work into the contest. It's about the quality of the art, not who had it first, right?______________________________________________________________________________________________________________PRIZES- First Prize: $500 cash prize, featured placement in the following issue of Wisdom Crieth Without, interview

Tutorial Tuesday: PortfoliosSo you want to be a professional artist, and you have an opportunity to show off your art to an editor, or art director. But you have to put together a portfolio. First impressions count, so you have to make sure you do this right if you want to be taken seriously. And you're friend Shono is here to help! The key is professionalism. If you want to be taken seriously, you have to look like you take this seriously. When I first started out my art sucked... really really bad... but I conducted myself very professionally, and presented my art professionally. So even though my art was terrible, and I was not going to be hired, the editors and publishers I talked to treated me with respect and took me seriously, as they could tell I took it seriously. In fact many many times an editor, after critiquing my art and telling me why it sucks, commented about how I presented my work.. This was often followed by him giving me his card. Even thou

Project Educate: Interview with *purplekecleonMeet purplekecleon :iconpurplekecleon:1. Why did you become a member of deviantART?I became a member, actually, because a couple of my friends had set up galleries here. I didn't know of any place before deviantART that allowed me my own gallery space, so that was pretty neat at the time! I was 13, so I just had a small collection of works I'd done with oekaki... so, that's what I posted back then, haha.2. Of the 8 years you've been here, what is your biggest (and proudest) accomplishment here on deviantART? Like a time when you felt like you were right on top of the world Let's see... my biggest/proudest accomplishment is actually a recent thing, I think. I'm most proud of having set up PMD-Explorers as a group. It's going strong and it's given a lot of people something to do, and motivated a lot of people to draw and write who otherwise might not have done so. That is s
